The
blueprint for S.I.D.A. was drawn in 1995 when a group of six independent
roofing distributors in Florida and Georgia banded together with
a similar idea to increase their profitability, exposure in the
marketplace and ability to deliver competitive prices with their
already reputable, high-quality service.
That idea - to bring together several smaller businesses and form
one organization that could compete against the bigger chains and
larger roofing distributors and create a stronger whole - was the
foundation for S.I.D.A..
By combining their buying power, pooling their knowledge, becoming
more cost efficient and dealing with vendors on a unified footing,
the group believed they could create a more powerful organization
and support each other, while still maintaining their own business
identities and individual control.
Under the S.I.D.A. banner - Southeast Independent
Distributors of America - the new group was formed. In unity, there
was strength. No longer disadvantaged by higher costs and fewer
resources, the original group of six quickly expanded as others
recognized the power and strength of this new business cooperative.
As new members came on board and the organization grew, the organization
revised its name to become, in 2001, Select Independent Distributors
of America.
While its name changed, the group's mission remained the same:
to help independent, owner-operated, local distributors compete
with large, national chains by increasing their buying power, providing
a single voice in negotiations with manufacturers, and still allowing
each business owner to maintain independent control of their operation.
Today, S.I.D.A. has 49 members in 153 locations nationwide, and is growing rapidly. S.I.D.A.
is currently recruiting new members who share the same business
philosophy, regard for ethical and sound business principles, and
the desire to succeed by supplying top quality building and roofing
materials.
With S.I.D.A., you
gain the POWER of MANY,
while maintaining the INDEPENDENCE of ONE.
